Gresley Parish Church

Greasley Parish Church, dedicated to St. Mary, has stood for over 700 years in the Nottinghamshire countryside.

Originally built in the 13th century, it was heavily restored in the 1890s after falling into ruin, but parts of the medieval tower and stonework still remain.

The church has deep ties to the local coal mining communities, serving generations of families in nearby villages like Moorgreen and Newthorpe. Its peaceful graveyard holds centuries of local history, and the church remains active today—blending ancient heritage with modern worship.

From medieval times to the present, Greasley Church has been at the heart of the community.

Horse & Groom Newthorpe

Originally this building was a 17th-century farmhouse on the Greasley Estate. Some of its oldest fabric dates from that period .

In January 2023, it was officially designated an Asset of Community Value, following nomination by Nottingham CAMRA .

Not long ago, it underwent a six-figure transformation: a £200k interior upgrade (around 2021), followed by a stunning £100k+ revamp of the beer garden with a heated, festoon-lit, beach-style patio—remarked on as offering “one of the best views in Nottinghamshire” .
